As women get older, the vagina can become less elastic, which can result in sexual dysfunction and stress urinary incontinence. This is particularly true if you have given birth to children. Older women also experience something called atrophic vaginitis, which is caused by declining estrogen levels during and after menopause. Vaginal rejuvenation, therefore, is not just about having a younger-looking vulva and better sex.

Modern techniques allow for a rejuvenating experience without invasive surgery. At our highly-regarded Med Spa, we use ThermiVa to provide women with a way to restore tightness and tone to the vagina and surrounding tissues. If you are looking for ThermiVa vaginal rejuvenation in Houston, Deigni Plastic Surgery is your destination.

What is ThermiVa?

ThermiVa is a non-surgical device that uses transcutaneous temperature-controlled radiofrequency therapy. This essentially means that a mild current is put through your skin to cause slight heating, which then triggers healing, and the development of new skin, increased blood flow, and contraction of collagen.

It is a relatively straightforward office procedure that is performed without any kind of anesthesia or drugs, meaning there is no downtime and you can get right back to your life afterward.

What Can ThermiVa Treatment Help With?

ThermiVa is not just for aesthetics, although those do matter too. Primarily, ThermiVa treatment can help patients in Houston with:

  • A loose and aged vulva that is aesthetically unpleasant.
  • Vaginal laxity during sex.
  • Vaginal atrophy, which can cause pain during intercourse.
  • Stress urinary incontinence (SUI). This is when your bladder leaks slightly during physical activity, coughing, sneezing, or laughing. SUI is common in women, especially women who have had at least one child or prior pelvic surgery. Sometimes this condition requires surgery, and ThermiVa may allow you to avoid it; however; it will not help more serious cases of
  • Sexual dysfunction, including loss of libido due to unsatisfactory sex and the loss of the ability to orgasm during intercourse
  • Vaginal dryness

Many patients also find that ThermiVa treatments improve the experience of intercourse for both them and their partners.

What Happens During a ThermiVa Treatment?

ThermiVa treatment happens in our Houston office. Each treatment takes about thirty minutes and is performed with no anesthesia. A small probe will be inserted into your vaginal area, attached to the ThermiVa machine. The probe is very small and resembles the Hegar dilator used to induce cervical dilation or treat vaginismus.

Most women need three treatments to get full results, which can last as long as a year. ThermiVa is therefore not a permanent solution, but it is also a repeatable one. We generally recommend three treatments given one month apart, and then a maintenance treatment every six months, depending on your individual results. If you are noticing a return of symptoms such as SUI or vaginal laxity, please follow up with us.

There is absolutely no downtime with ThermiVa. Unlike with laser treatment, you should not experience any vaginal discharge, although full results can take a few weeks to manifest. You can immediately return to all of your normal activities, including sexual intercourse.

Are There Side Effects to ThermiVa?

ThermiVa typically does not have serious side effects when used by a competent aesthetician. It is possible that you may experience some minor, temporary pain in the treatment site, or some swelling or reddening of the skin of your vulva. These side effects should go away quickly and they typically do not bother most patients.

You should not have ThermiVa vaginal rejuvenation treatments in Houston while you are pregnant. The probe that is used could induce cervical dilation, resulting in miscarriage or premature delivery. If you suspect you may be pregnant, please do not come in for your treatments without taking a pregnancy test first.

You should also delay treatment if you have a fever, a skin infection in your groin area, or a vaginal infection, as this can result in discomfort. While the probe does not typically breach the dermal barrier, there may be a risk of infection if your skin is already broken.

We have the experience to use ThermiVa correctly and to minimize side effects. If you are sick, please call us to reschedule your appointment so that we can be sure you do not suffer any ill effects.
