Each person wants to project the best version of themselves when they venture out into the world. For some people that may mean removing fine lines and wrinkles, or perhaps it means facial plastic surgery to keep looking youthful. For others, their main concern might be ear development that diminishes self-esteem and self-confidence.
The effect of enlarged or protruding ears may affect your self-image so much that you end up socializing less than you would like to. At Deigni Plastic Surgery, we offer services to correct your ears that stick out. Ask us about ear pinning in Houston – or a more general otoplasty – and we can determine the recommended cosmetic adjustment.
Otoplasty is cosmetic plastic surgery that alters or enhances the appearance of your ears. This procedure may change the shape of your ears or modify their position or size. Ear pinning, specifically, alters the outer structure of your ears by shaping them and decreasing the size of the earlobes while correcting asymmetry.
Otoplasty is indicated for patients with prominent or protruding ears or other deformities. The ear pinning surgery can be performed under general or local anesthesia in our Houston office and may take two to four hours depending on the extent of correction that is needed. It may also be possible to get multiple procedures done alongside your ear pinning, such as a facelift, neck lift, or rhinoplasty. Dr. Deigni can provide more information on whether you will be able to take advantage of multiple procedures at once.
Recovery time for an otoplasty varies from patient to patient. This means that each person can react differently to the effects of cosmetic surgery procedures. For instance, you may experience some swelling and discomfort immediately following the surgery but it should go away in due course.
You will have soft dressings over the ears that could stay in place for several days. The sutures (stitches) are removed within seven to ten days. You should also sleep with protective bandages for the first two weeks after surgery.
In general, you can expect to resume exercising after one month. Swimming is usually allowed after six weeks. If you have questions about specific activities you should refrain from, and for how long, please ask Dr. Deigni during your consultation. Our team is also available to address your concerns during your recovery.
Dr. Deigni specialized in surgery to enhance cosmetic appearances at the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery in Houston, Texas. No one has to be stuck with ears that stick out too much, are too large, or are asymmetrical. Otoplasty is a common technique that can address any concerns you have and allow you to feel confident being out in social situations again.
