About the Procedure

What to expect with your breast surgery.

The most common question I hear is whether to do a breast lift, a breast augmentation, or both.

A breast augmentation increases volume. A breast lift restores position and shape. A breast reduction removes excess tissue that may be causing back pain or discomfort. And in many cases, the right answer is a combination of two procedures performed at the same time.

If your breasts have descended over time and your nipples are pointing downward, but you are happy with your volume, a breast lift is what repositions the breast tissue and brings the nipples back to where they need to be. If you also want more cleavage and more volume up top, we add an implant at the same time.

If you have some sagging but want to avoid the scars that come with a lift, it depends on how much we need to move the nipples. If we only need to go up 1 to 2 centimeters, we may be able to achieve that with an implant alone. If you need a more significant lift, the implant on its own will leave the nipples sitting too low once surgery is done. I will tell you honestly which approach is right for your anatomy.

For patients coming in after a previous breast surgery, revision is also something I perform regularly. If your implants are falling to the sides and you want more cleavage and a perkier look, I go back into the pocket and place sutures around the sides to prevent the implant from shifting toward the armpit. That brings everything closer to the midline and gives you a more balanced result.
