What Is Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia surgery is a permanent surgical procedure that treats feminized breasts, in men. Gynecomastia can permanently remove:

  • Excess and unwanted breast tissue
  • Excess glandular tissue
  • Fat deposits
  • Excess skin

Gynecomastia surgery in The Woodlands is specifically for the breast area and masculinizes the appearance of your chest. At Deigni Plastic Surgery, we will take special care to further shape, contour, and refine your pectoral muscles to help you achieve a more athletic and masculine appearance.

Do I Need Gynecomastia Surgery?

While this surgery is purely cosmetic and has no real medical benefit, it can be truly life-changing for our patients, especially those who feel uncomfortable with their bodies.

For many patients, this condition is not simply physical. Gynecomastia can also cause psychological concerns, such as:

  • Discomfort wearing certain clothes
  • Hesitancy in social situations
  • Feelings of shame, low self-confidence, and low self-esteem
  • Poor quality of life

Gynecomastia surgery in The Woodlands is ideal for our male patients who experience physical symptoms such as feminized breasts, excess, unwanted breast tissue, and pain related to enlarged breasts.

What to Expect During Your Gynecomastia Surgery Procedure

Your gynecomastia surgery will be customized to your needs. However, it will generally involve Dr. Deigni making precise, strategically located incisions in your chest tissue through which the surgery will take place. There are two types of incisions.

In a periareolar incision, Dr. Deigni makes a circular incision around the edge of your areola. This is suitable for moderate cases of gynecomastia. The vertical incision strategy involves Dr. Deigni making a vertical incision extending from the areola to the inframammary fold. This strategy is generally used for more extensive tissue removal.

Through these incisions, Dr. Deigni will skillfully remove excess and surplus tissue, skin, and fat from your breast area without harming your remaining skin and tissue. He may further enhance your procedure with liposuction.

Dr. Deigni will also further enhance your chest region by shaping your pectoral muscles to enhance your musculature and form. He may also remove any excess, leftover skin. Dr. Deigni will do his best to ensure that any incisions created are carefully concealed, and that any resulting scarring is as minimal as possible.

Your recovery from your surgery for gynecomastia in The Woodlands will take a few weeks. During this time, you must avoid exercise of any kind. You should rest your chest muscles and the rest of your body. At this time, do not smoke, limit your alcohol intake, and engage in a healthy and active lifestyle. If you take care of yourself as directed, you will be able to see the full extent of your results after approximately three months.
